Dr. Frazier leads the Childhood Cancer Registry project for the Global Health Initiative of the Dana-Farber Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorders Center. She established the first population-based cancer registries in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Nicaragua. Because the stage of disease was not being reported to pediatric cancer registries globally and is a key factor used to interpret global differences in outcome, I led an international consensus process resulting in the SIOP-Toronto Pediatric Cancer Staging Guidelines, published in Lancet Oncology. The guidelines are now being implemented in registries worldwide using an app the group has created. Over 98% of children can have stage correctly assigned now using the Guidelines, compared to <40% prior to implementation.
Dr. Frazier also serves as the vice-chair of the Lancet Oncology Commission on Sustainable Pediatric Cancer Care in Low and Middle-Income Countries (LMIC). The Commission will provide data on the current incidence and survival of childhood cancer in LMIC, will estimate the number of children currently undiagnosed, the expected change in survival with scale-up of treatment access and health systems.
